her name was Little G
Bay Bridge Peregrine Falcons Get Released
POSTED: 9:28 pm PDT June 1, 2007
UPDATED: 6:02 pm PDT June 3, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO -- Three young peregrine falcons got their first taste of the wild when they were released Saturday along the Santa Cruz coastline.
The University of Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group biologists and a foster peregrine mother have raised the three birds, after all three were rescued from their nests on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge earlier this year.
"Little G," one of the soon to be released falcons, is the female offspring of George and Gracie, a well-known peregrine couple living in San Francisco. "Little G" was rescued from the bridge nest on March 30 when she was still inside an egg but is now at the ripe old age of 42 days. Peregrines typically fly for the first time between 41 and 43 days old, according to a statement from Pacific Gas & Electric Co.
The other two falcons were also rescued from the Bay Bridge as hatchlings about two weeks ago and are not related to "Little G."
George and Gracie moved from the Bay Bridge to the downtown San Francisco PG&E building, where they laid one more egg. That egg was also collected by biologists, and a healthy peregrine emerged on Tuesday.
The peregrines will still have food provided for them at the release site for two months until they can hunt for themselves. The falcons will also carry radio telemetry devices so the predatory research biologists can track them until the device falls off in a few weeks.
San Jose also has a resident family of peregrine falcons. Jose and Clara have a nest on the San Jose city hall tower and their own reality web show at http://falconcam.sanjoseca.gov/nest where their three offspring can be seen with almost full adult plumage.
Peregrines are an endangered species in California. The peregrine population declined to zero known nesting pairs east of the Mississippi River, and just two known nesting pairs in California by 1970. Today, there are an estimated 250 peregrine falcon nesting pairs in California, according to a statement from PG&E.

Koko Taylor sometimes called 'KoKo Taylor' (born Cora Walton, 28 September 1935, in Shelby County, Tennessee) is an American blues musician, popularly known as the "Queen of the Blues." She is known primarily for her rough and powerful vocals and traditional blues stylings.
Taylor left Memphis for Chicago, Illinois in 1954 with her husband, truck driver Robert "Pops" Taylor and in the late 1950s began singing in Chicago blues clubs. She was spotted by Willie Dixon in 1962, and this led to wider performances and her first recording contract. In 1965, Taylor was signed by Chess Records, for which her single "Wang Dang Doodle" (written by Dixon, and a hit for Howlin' Wolf five years earlier) became a major hit, reaching number four on the R&B charts in 1966, and selling a million copies. Taylor has recorded many versions of this Dixon-penned song over the past few decades and has added more material, both original and covers, but has never repeated that initial chart success.

Grayskull: Seasoned veterans of the rap game and sharing stages with rap luminaries too varied to list entirely, they have spent the last 5 years touring extensively with their Oldominion crew as well as the Def Jux and Rhymesayers camps. The Grayskul live show itself is unique in that it consists of 2 emcees (Reason & Recluse), live bass (Phantom Ghost El Topo) and a DJ. They're no strangers to the recording studio either, with previous solo projects and appearances on Oldominion crew albums. They've apparently impressed their peers in the industry as well, as they have attracted guest appearances from legendary battle emcee Canibus, current indie Hip Hop idol Aesop Rock, Project Blowed heavyweight Abstract Rude and Howard Zinn's favorite rapper, Mr. Lif.
taken from Rhymsayers Ent
Oscar Brown Jr: Oscar Brown, Jr (October 10, 1926–May 29, 2005) was a singer, songwriter, playwright, poet, and civil rights activist. He ran for office in the Illinois state legislature and U.S. Congress, both unsuccessfully. Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, he was named for his father who was a successful attorney and real estate broker. His singing debut was on the radio show Secret City at age fifteen. Brown attended Englewood High School in Chicago, the University of Wisconsin, and Lincoln University (Pennsylvania) but did not obtain a degree. He served a stint in the U.S. Army, officially segregated until 1948, where his views on "race relations" were considered "subversive."[citation needed] In his youth, he was even a member of the Communist Party, USA, which ultimately also decided Oscar was "too subversive"; he was suspected to be a Black Nationalist.[citation needed]
from WIki
X-Clan: Known for its Afrocentrism and militant activism (they were members of Blackwatch), X-Clan soon gained fame for the controversy its music aroused, though commercial success was sporadic. Its debut was To the East, Blackwards (1990), followed by Xodus (1992), and a temporary break-up. Both albums peaked at #11 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip Hop Charts in the United States. They also coined the made-up word “vanglorious,” not to be confused with vainglorious, as a way to say Thanks but no thanks to Noah Webster (citation needed).

Macklemore - The Bush Song
Thank you Gov! laced me with hella music this week. still sorting...!
Macklemore's style is confessional, intimate, self-conscious; kicking off his LP with his incisive "White Privilege," he clearly isn't pulling any punches, especially toward himself. Even on the more boastful tracks, one can sense his decompression, his willingness, or rather his need to put it all out there, bolstered by the necessary skills to back it up. Although he may scarcely appreciate the comparison, Mack's style evokes Atmosphere's Slug, minus the Rhymesayer's more flagrant emo histrionics. Unlike Sluggo's Midwest meditations, however, Macklemore can be identified as a product of Seattle after one listen to his record.

Nancy Sinatra - Boots
Amy Winehouse - Rehab
all i can say is... wow...
a little on amy
Born and raised in North London, Amy Winehouse spent her teenage years balancing school and boyfriends with hours locked in her bedroom, ears glued to classic song chord changes. She grew up on the sweet sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Ray Charles. But her voice was clearly living a secret life, staying out, getting high, breaking down, going to prison and violating parole. At least it sounds that way.
She might sound like a 40’s jazz singer, but she’s using smart hip hop beats and lyrics for today’s listener. Her style is not for the candlelit basement. It’s out there living in the real world of Gucci bags, Diesel underwear, high heels, breast implants, weed after school, cheating airhead honeys and runaway crushes. So instead of singing songs like ‘Dancing Cheek’ To Cheek, we get ‘Fuck Me Pumps’, and are all the better for it. Forget about torch themes from yesteryear this talented young femme fatale is going to tell you like it is at any cost.
Her father’s tutelage, enabled her to pick up some serious exposure to the classics like Sarah Vaughn and Dinah Washington. From Ella to Dinah, she felt her way forward through the old greats. She conjurs up the eloquence and technical aspects of Ella Fitzgerald while delivering cutting edge, sometimes crass, lyrics reminicent of my girl Nina Simone.
The irony in her music is what makes her album so cool. In the album ‘Frank‘, Amy is able to deliver “technically faultless” jazz vocals, and then she knocks the shit out of a bluesy soul track. The paradox has to be heard to be believed!!! While Amy was studying the jazz icons of her father’s childhood, soul music was going through a metamophasis of its own. Suddenly Hip Hop leaked into her headphones. Amy was digging Mos Def for his positive message, and by extension making room for Talib Kweli, The Roots, Nas and Erykah Badu. It is not hard to believe that eventually concise socially conscious lyrics, jazz enunciation and feisty attitude were coming together to form Amy’s own thing. You can see it in the raw on ‘Frank’.

Black rocker night! I've been waiting for this one. FIRST, let's let go of the taboo of Black rockers. Nobody is trying to be White when they rock out, they just like being rockers. Besides we invented rock music. So think on that...
No need for me to play JIMI, you've heard him lots from me, so I figured I'd feature some artists you may not have heard yet.
First someone put together a list Decrees Black Rocker List it's active so feel free to leave a comment or missed artist.
Also, I LOVE mohwaks, bet you wouldn't guess that. So I was thinking about the two terms we have in the Black rocker community, Bro-hawks and Fro-hawks. What's the difference you ask? I'll show you;
A Bro-hawk, the person still has a full head of hair and it is somehow maneuvered into a mohawk. Either faux-hawked (pushed up into a mohawk and massive gel) braided or rubber banded.

Bloodsugar

MG the Visionary
Fro-hawks are when the head is shaved on the sides and the mohawk part is just natural afro growing out. The Fro-hawk was invented by Mr T. No joke.

thank you Geech for bringing sexy back...

Nature Boy Jim Kelly and son

Lyende's Lady frohawk

Sly Stone

Thank you Mr T. from the bottom of my heart. You made this officially cool. I seriously, pity the fool...
and LASTLY
yours truly
young rocker Venus.
Love that faux-hawk!

been a rocker long before i had a set of warm-ups and adidas... gotta love the 80's.

No need for me to play JIMI, you've heard him lots from me, so I figured I'd feature some artists you may not have heard yet.
First someone put together a list Decrees Black Rocker List it's active so feel free to leave a comment or missed artist.
Also, I LOVE mohwaks, bet you wouldn't guess that. So I was thinking about the two terms we have in the Black rocker community, Bro-hawks and Fro-hawks. What's the difference you ask? I'll show you;
A Bro-hawk, the person still has a full head of hair and it is somehow maneuvered into a mohawk.

I don't know if this video is good or bad. It's awsome that the girl love Billie, but a kid shouldn't be singing about her people being lynched...
Look at the LA in the background. CALI all day lol
Th Noisettes made me think of this woman, they have a song called Sister Rosetta, an homage to the real Sister Rosetta, seen here.
and this was just GROSS in case you didn't see it. YES it's real

1. Edin Karamazov

Edin Karamazov is a Bosnian musician-lutenist (born in 1965 in Zenica, Bosnia). He studied lute with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and worked with such ensembles as Hesperion, L'Arpeggiata, Hilliard Ensemble, Mala Punica, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and singers Andreas Scholl, Anna-Maria Kiehr, Arianna Savall and Sting. Karamazov's solo archlute recording features Benjamin Britten's "Nocturnal" and J.S.Bach's Partita in d-minor (orig. for violin). Recent collaborations with Sting (in the field of 16th century music) resulted in the album "Songs from the Labyrinth", devoted to the lute-songs of John Dowland.
Edin is currently working with Macedonian singer and songwriter Kaliopi. They are preparing new material that will be released on the international market.

2. Dan The Automator, DJ Shadow and Kalyanji Anandji

Kalyanji Anandji was name used by Indian composer duo known for its work on Bollywood film soundtracks, particularly action potboilers in the 1970s. The name comes from first names of the two Gujarati brothers that formed the duo, Kalyanji Virji Shah and Anandji Virji Shah. Some of their best works are Don, Saraswatichandra and Safar.
Biography
Kalyanji and Anandji were born to Virji Shah, who migrated from Kutch to Mumbai to start a Kirana (provision store) business. The two brothers began to learn music from a music teacher, who actually knew no music, who taught them in lieu of paying his bills to their father. One of their four grand parents, was a folk musician of some eminence. They spent most of their formative years in the hamlet of Girgaum (a district in Mumbai) amidst Marathi and Gujarati environs — some eminent musical talent resided in the vicinity. The brothers were known for their humility and easy-to-approach nature. They also were well known for their love songs and poetry readings.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, their work was introduced to a young Western audience by three albums. 'Bombay The Hard Way: Guns Cars And Sitars' was a mix album put together by US DJ Dan The Automator; 'Bollywood Funk' was an Outcaste compilation album put together by Sutrasonic DJs Harv and Sunni; while 'The Beginners Guide To Bollywood' was compiled by John Lewis from Time Out magazine. All three of these records concentrated on Kalyanji Anandji tracks from 1970s films that featured funk breakbeats, wah-wah guitars and Motown-style orchestrations.
Kalyanji died on August 24, 2000.
3. Omar Sosa and Greg Landau

Omar Sosa (born April 10, 1965) is a Cuban composer and pianist of outstanding ability who is a recognised virtuoso of the piano.
He has played with a number of world musicians all around the globe. In 1995 he moved to San Francisco where he became deeply involved in the local Latin Jazz scene. Sosa mixes jazz influences alongside latin rhythms, North African percussions and spoken word/rap lyrics.
Greg Landau is an award-winning music and video producer, educator and music historian. He is a three-time Grammy nominee and has produced over 30 CDs, film sound tracks and videos. He has worked with renowned artists including: Patato Valdes, Buena Vista Social Club's Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, Susan Baca, Bobi Cespedes, Dr. Loco, Pete Seeger, Omar Sosa, John Santos, Pancho Quinto, Quetzal, Los Mocosos, Maldita Vecindad and David Byrne's record label Luaka Bop.
Recently, he produced the Grammy nominated album "Peru Blue" with Pamela Rodriguez. Greg Landau, Babatunde Lea, and John Greenham composed and produced "The African Diaspora Suite" for a permanent installation in the newly built Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco. He also completed composing and producing the film score for Haskell Wexler's newest film, "Who Needs Sleep" which will debut at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival. He is currently producing a CD for the Brazilian group, Sambada, as well as Mexican singer and songwriter Arturo Ortega.
During the 1980's he toured internationally as a guitarist and tresero with the reknowed Nicaraguan Nueva Cancion group, Luis Enrique Mejia Godoy and Mancotal, and shared stages with Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes, Mercedes Sosa, Chico Buarque, Amparo Ochoa and Nicomedes Santa Cruz in music festivals and concerts all over Latin America and Europe.
Over the last two decades, Greg has worked extensively with Oscar winning filmmaker Haskell Wexler and with his father, Saul Landau making documentary films in Latin America. He has also done extensive cultural research in Latin America and has received a doctorate in Communication from the prestigious University of California, San Diego.
4. Edson X

Edson X Last.FM
Brazilian downtempo artist one that blends rootsy African/Brazilian percussion with elements of dub, funk, and hip hop -- . He appears on many compilations and is gaining international popularity.
5. The Roots

The Roots, also known as The Legendary Roots Crew, The Fifth Dynasty, The Square Roots and The Foundation, are an influential, Grammy winning Philadelphia-based hip hop group, famed for a heavily jazzy sound and live instrumentation. Inspired by the "hip-hop band" concept pioneered by Stetsasonic, the Roots themselves have garnered critical acclaim and influenced later hip-hop and R&B acts.
