This third installment lived up to my own personal hype machine. Opening with My Propeller, a dark brooding song about Alex's, umm.... propeller. Thanks for that one. Really. The best song on the album is by far Fire and the Thud, it's just perfect. It's an intoxicating little poem about trepidation in love, Jaime Cook wails away on the set, and what do you know Alison Mosshart does background vocals on this song. Much of this album was recorded here in The States and I think I can decipher which were recorded in the Mojave at Rancho De La Luna and which were recorded in various parts of NYC. This album is a fine example of what some time in the desert can do to you. It's sexy, it's private, it's longing and its direct. You can't ignore it once you put it on. Cornerstone has to be one of the most absurd situations that I totally understand "Can I call you her name?" hell no, but I've been there, and so have you. And that's what makes Arctic Monkeys genius. They tell your stories, with no qualms about things like censorship being that their popularity grew on the internet and not the radio, they speak whats on your mind and it's always the right time.
Go get this album.
Now.
